we have the ability to convert manual to UPC/EAN or disc-id. The possibility to go automated maual made profile, would enable us to have duplicate dvd's in our collection with all the data from the online profile. When you have a scond dvd with the same UPC/EAN/disc-id switch that to manual, and download your new dvd with the same UPC/EAN/disc-id.
Automated: no conflict with dual manual profiles no same id.

Situation now you have to create the profile manualy, and re-enter all the data that is already online.

Although I support the idea for different reasons, for the reason you describe I'd prefer the ability to have duplicates in my collection and keep the 2nd profile linked to the online database.

Oh it would be so easy to add that one to BulkEdit, since it already has Manual Profile create / edit. Should I? Of course I know that is no substitute for having it native ..,

It would be something like: - clone profile: then you get the manual profile create screen,

or clone profile(s), and then you would give a starting number for the sequence - something like that? I'll do some testing to see it that works - in case I get a "yes".
Thanks for your support.

If you can do it with the necessary safeguards: no duplicate manual id's. So clone would copy the contents of a selected profile to the first available manual profile? That would ease the work load. I'm using a lot of manual profiles to switch between profiles of the same family and have some duplicates in the collection, that stay empty (just copied the covers) why not, unless Ken let you know it is on his list for implementation in the next release!

If Ken is not going for multiple profiles on the same EAN/UPC or disc-id in the same locality for some reasons mentioned or his own reasons, we will have at least this possibility.

Ok, I'll play with it ... I don't care if it is throw away, so I'll give it a shot and let you know if it works.

Just to play devil's advocate for a minute... what's to stop someone from using mediadogg's "profile cloning technology" to make many duplicate profiles and using the software for commercial purposes?

Well I didn't actually do it yet - not even sure I can. But you can be sure that I will respect the "concensus" of the community or a direct "order" from Ken. So, you guys talk it out, while I play - and at the end of the day, if I can do it, I will, so long as it doesn't violate ..... whatever ... ok?

Hey, I just threw that out there for thought. I'm sure you'll do what's right. I'm thankful for users such as yourself that dedicate themselves to the betterment of the program and community as a whole. I use a couple of your plugins regularly and am thankful for them .

So what could these "commercial purposes" be?

No video rental store would use a program like DVDProfiler to keep track of its inventory! They would need a unique barcode for each copy of a DVD, manual profiles don't have a barcode (UPC/EAN).

I've seen webshops using our scans, and the data of the profiles.

I know work-arounds are never as good as getting the feature added to the program, but:

One way around this limitation is to change the UPC to 11 zeroes followed by a numerical value starting at one.

Meaning, for your first conversion to a "manual" profile you'd do 000000000001, for the second 000000000002 and so on. Eventually you'd obviously have 10 zeroes followed by 10, then 11, etc.

That is not really true. Things can be done many numbers of ways. I worked as a manager of a video store in my town for over 12 years and we never used UPC codes in any way what so every. Every single copy of every single title got it's own unique storage number. I could have easily made DVD Profiler work for our store if there was a quick and easy way to go from UPC/EAN to manual profile.
