| Posted: | | | | In Germany and other parts of Europe there is a case type called Metalpak. More information: www.metalpak.com The Metalpak is a kind of a Steelbook clone without a spine (only two parts front and back) with a paste in disc holder. They really look cheap. Some people say that Steelbook means all metal cases with this size in general, others think that this thing is not a Steelbook and should list as custom. In my opinion Steelbook does not mean all kinds of metal cases, only real steelbook cases from Scanavo. If this means all metal cases, the steelbook should be renamed. We use keep case and not Amaray, too. Pictures: http://img3.imagebanana.com/img/f5547g2s/IMAGE_00341.jpg http://img3.imagebanana.com/img/h0ufkctc/IMAGE_00340.jpg |

| Posted: | | | | I've been waiting for this discussion My opinion: Steelbook is a manufacturer as well as Metalpak. A steelbook is different from this Metalpak (e.g. the spine). As far as we have to choose between Steelbook and custom a Metalpak ist custom and no steelbook. All other interpretations are speculative as far as it's not clarified in the rules! | | | Thorsten |

I can live with that too... Same here, but this must be clearly mentioned in the rules to avoid ping-pong contributions! | | | Thorsten |

| Posted: | | | | Yeah, I think Behemot's got the right idea. I don't think a company name should have been used for case type in the first place - a generic "metal case" would cover both options. |

| Posted: | | | | IMO the idea behind the "Steelbook" case type is "All cases that look (more or less) like Keep Cases and are of kinda Metal".
So, Metalpak IMO IS a "Steelbook".
And I recommend to change "Steelbook" to "Metal Case" (or whatever), too. |

| Posted: | | | | Under the current version of the rules, I'd list a Metalpack as Steelbook, assuming (yeah, I know, not good enough for some) that
a.) the Metalpack case type is (for now) uncommon in the US and therefore Ken didn't see this problem when introducing the case type "Steelbook"
b.) Ken's intention was to provide a seperate case type for DVD cases made of metal, not plastic, regardless of the manufacturer
c.) "Custom" should be used to describe extraordinary or exceptional ways of packagin DVDs, such as wooden boxes (for example "The Wickerman" LE (RC 1), "Braveheart LE" (RC 2) ) blister packaging (for example LOTR SEE LE), bags, ammunition crates etc.
To avoid further confusion and clarify this issue, I'd also advise on changing "Steelbook" to "Metalcase". | | | Lutz |

Sounds like a good idea... but I think maybe it should specifically exclude those exclusive cases(so beloved of EzyDVD) that are simply a keep case inside a metal tin. | | | It is dangerous to be right in matters where established men are wrong |

| Posted: | | | | "Steelbook" to "Metal Case" sounds reasonable. It might be easily construed with Anchor Bay-style (and Madacy and others) "Metal Tins" though. | | | Corey | | | Last edited: by Katatonia |

It shouldn't be too hard to tell those two apart: with the metalcases or Steelbooks, the DVD holding mechanism is directly connected to the metal casing.
The EzyDVD Tin-Boxes, as far as I understand it (I don't own any), contain a regular keep case with a metal box around it, so there's no direct connection between the DVD and the metal.
@ Katatonia:
Same should work for the Anchor-Bay titles if I'm not mistaken. | | | Lutz |
