I would say that to use the Middle Name here is for any part of the name that isn't part of the given name or surname but the poll doesn't really offer this except using it regardless of country.

The country isn't the deciding matter in the long run, it's the parents who named the child.

Never. In particular profiles of Spanish-language films can look truly horrible. If you look too long you might get a splitting headache.

I have to agree with, Doc on this. Seems a very poorly thought out poll, there are Options that should have been included and were not. I detect a built-in bias, Martin

Agreed.
Another "bias", though, is that users might vote according to the usage in their own country, that seems obvious and "neutral"  to their eyes

Agreeing with the Dr. as well.

How about:

"When people have a 'Middle Name', or when it cannot be determined if the second name in their full name is a middle name or not.

I would like that. But then, in countries that do not generally use a "middle name", I guess it should not be used, unless you can determine it actually is a middle name.

For countries that do not use "middle names", the field should never be used.  However, I suspect there is an exception even to this!

The lack of respect for (other) cultural or religious reasons will be displayed by the results of this poll. If and when we want to have an online database with only one name for every person we should not only look for the most commonly used name, but also need to find out how that name should be parsed. It may look strange if a foreign cast or crew member is parsed differently amongst others, but it's the only correct way to do so.

DVD Profiler has nothing to do with anyone's particular culture or religion...it's all about the DATA...period.

My sentiments exactly.

Parse as seen ie A/B/C unless you can document otherwise.

This is DVD Profiler not geneolgy profiler.
