recently i contributed some new coverscans. all of them were declined. i tried it once more and a few has been released. so i put up all the scans that were declined last time and i was hoping that they go online - but no: declined again. voting was 3 - 8 for "yes" and none for "no", except in one case, that was 4:1 for "yes". i don't get it. the existing cover online are horrible and i want to change that.

all of them are german hd dvds or blu-rays, regarding the titles kiss kiss bang bang, batman begins, mission impossible 1 - 3, das parfüm, miami vice, constantine and many more

here are some eans:

If you're resubmitting to get rid of the HD-DVD or Blu-Ray cover only, it'll be declinded.

The key words to image replacements are "significant improvement".

What did the submission say for the decline reason?

no, they are way better than the existing ones, thats the reason i dont understand it. i mean, the existing ones look really horrible. scanned with case, bad contrast and so on. i can't see that anymore...i can't take it anymore....
where can i see the decline reason? i just see the votes and the message "declined"

If possible, can you post an example of one of your contributed images that was declined here so we can compare it to the image in the database?

Here is my assesment for you and i would have voted No

You are removing the banner...leave it. This is the single biggest problem.
Your image is nowhere near as sharp as existing, your colors are off a little bit and your black levels are weak.

but the problem is not the voting. its all "yes"

weak black levels? hmm, i used photoshop for the contrast, it can't be a darker black

and what about the banner? the banner is on the case and not on the cover.

heres another example:

Taking off the banners should be fine considering Ken is planning on adding toggable user banners.

I dont' have the kiss kiss bang bang HD-DVD so I can't eval but it looks like your colors are off there as well and a wee bit too dark.  Are you using a CRT?  Those are notorious for having incorrect colors.

Check out this current thread - provides free software for monitor calibration.

Are we now scanning the cases to the DB? I thought they were supposed to be cover scans

Anyway i think Looper2's covers look great, no way could they be declined due to image quality.

i have tft panel. i know that the cover might look a little bit dark.....compared to the existing one. as i said, i use photoshop for the contrast level.
besides all that, i think that my covers are looking quite better, you can't deny that
well, compared to the database the cover is quite amazing

Whispering we are using the HD/BD banners. This discussion has been had numerous times. And even ken has recently informed that there is a preponderance of HD/BD including the banners.

That has not been finalized.

Quoting Ken Cole:

As suggested, I'm testing a client-side banner for HD covers that will be optional, and will use user-replaceable graphics.  If and when this is implemented, we would set the rule for HD covers to that of standard DVD covers - the insert only and not the case or banner.

Thoughts?

regarding to kens post in the following thread (he shows us banners that he will include in the program), leaving the banner ist not a problem...actually it has to be that way.
i know its not final, but it's also not a problem to leave the banner and certainly not a reason to decline a contribution

here is the thread: http://www.invelos.com/Forums.aspx?task=viewtopic&topicID=200420&PageNum=4

If the banner must be left, at least crop off the side and bottom or even better, use a custom banner such as found here.
