Would it be possible that when a change to a DVD that is part of your own collection is submitted, that you receive an email advising of such.

This would save me from:

1. Having to visit the Database page each day (and invariably finding nothing to vote on)
2. Missing the chance to vote because I forgot to visit the site

I think an e-mail is not a good idea... Imagine the people with larger collection getting their inbox flooded with such mails...

Maybe some other form of notification is feasible...

I agree with Achim on this one... I would hate to see all the email notifications I would get... as there is always lots that needs to be voted on from my collection every day!

Hmmmm, maybe a daily digest, opt-in of course, would be a possibility. Gives the user 1-2 days to come here and vote.

I don't want email notificatins, I have far too much to deal with now, it is much simpler to monitor the vote site.

Agree with ya_shin, this would have to be an opt in if it was implemented. Invelos would very quickly end up in spam filters for some of us if it wasn't.

My collection is of sufficient size that it's pretty much a given that I have something to vote on every day.  Not that I do of course.
Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here.
Create fake parent profiles to organize your collection.

Why not some notification in DVD Profiler instead.  When starting the program it could check and tell you that there is "unvoted pending" profiles.  It wouldn't take much resouces (much less than emails) and make sure to prevent the spam database risks.

Not that I need that because I think it would be better than emails if any kind of notification was to be implemented.

I agree to all the previous comments against having an e-mail notification system, this would be a nightmare with any reasonably large collection.

However i think Touti has come up with a very good idea, perhaps a notification of how many titles 'unvoted pending' shown unobtrusively in the top right of each page under your user name?

This may also have the added advantage of encouraging other users to vote, and my philosophy has always been that once a new user gets used to voting and seeing contributions, they would get a much better understanding of the whole process and actively start contributing themselves.

Perhaps to the extreme new users should have to vote a certain number of times before being allowed to contribute - but thats another subject

What about an email being sent every time you RECEIVE a no vote on one of your submission? Of course it should be possible to opt-out, but with the default being on

Now THAT is a good idea. Even though I try to check votes daily, it would be nice to be alerted to no votes.

How about a personalized RSS feed with a list of all profiles to be voted for?

Thanks for the replies everyone.

Being down here in R4 land (and with a smaller collection than most of you), I don't get as many DVDs to vote on as those of you who are in R1 land.

In hindsight, the email option probably isn't the ideal solution, especially for those with huge collections.

The RSS idea would be perfect for me. Unobtrusive, optional. As long as it is clearly advertised, so newbies  learn about the function early on in the learning process, rather than being something they stumble across in the forum.

I use Firefox each day with an RSS ticker. I only really use DVD Profiler when I buy a new DVD.

The quicker turnaround between submission and approval by Invelos was also an issue. Certainly a good move, but it does impede my chances to vote if I'm not quick enough.
