I just downloaded MyMovies' Mac app. It seems nicer than their iOS app but sadly they are not planning to update it. They instead are relying on their iOS app being able to run on Apple Silicon. I haven't tried their Windows apps.

Probably not. This is not an issue with iOS 17.5.1 but rather with the new Invelos server.

MyMovies tech support has modified their import code to address the lack of complete purchase info. I tested it out and imported my library again and it seems to work properly now. I'll play with it some more looking for other import issues, but for now I would recommend others give it a try. I've found their tech support to be very responsive. The more info they get from DVD Profiler users, the better off we will all be, especially iOS users. iOS 18 is coming in a few months and I would be surprised if DVD Profiler still works useably.
On a related note, I feel bad for iOS users who don't have access to the Windows version. Invelos should offer them a data export service. I'm sure most iOS users would pay a modest fee for that.

I just got this response from MyMovies relating to how they handle box sets:
As DVD Profiler, we support box sets with child titles – where a box set contains of a parent title with child titles – we cannot create matches on the child titles imported from DVD Profiler because the child titles do not have identifiers, but when we import the parent title with child titles from our service, the result is typically the same – we ignore the child titles that DVD Profiler has for the title, and instead add the parent with an information to include the child titles we have in our service. This basically means that you almost always will get the same result, but, there can be situations where a title is only created as a parent title in our service, in which case you will not get the child titles, and similar it can be that there are titles for which DVD Profiler also only have a parent title, where you could get a full box set from our service. The handling of box sets is very similar though.

In regards to TV Series, there is a difference in handling, but you will also here get a match to the profiles in our service, where we typically have more TV Series data than DVD Profiler – each profile in our service have informations on which TV Series it is, and which episodes it contains. This information is available on the details page in the apps, where you can see details of the TV Series, and the episodes contained within the profile. We are not importing that data from DVD Profiler, but when a title is matched to a profile in our service, you get the TV Series data we have for it – again here, there can be a difference in so that we potentially can have a title that does not hold the TV Series data, where there can be titles that does hold it, where it did not in DVD Profiler.

The import can with our approach never be a complete 1:1 conversion, as we specifically match your profiles to our service, giving you the benefits of the features we can provide with it, including the option of getting profile data updates when other users contribute to the data.

I just retried importing into My Movies after running DVD Profiler Repair and then exporting selecting everything but Easter Eggs and crew. It went relatively well with a few burps but while it imports the purchase place, it still doesn't import the purchase date or price. Bummer! I passed this info on to them and am awaiting a reply.
On a positive note, I've found their tech support to be very responsive.

Just heard back from iCollectMovies. Unfortunately they only import CSV files. On a positive note, however, they use barcodes so I'll give the XML to CSV conversion process another try.

After working with the MyMovies rep, I was able to import my library.
The iPad interface is very different and will take some time to get used to. My first impression is negative but that could change as I play with it.  It successfully imported my notes and movie provider (that's good), but did not import the date purchased or the price paid (that's bad). While initially limited to 50 titles, it will be difficult will be difficult to form an opinion, particularly for boxed sets. However they do offer 2 week and 1 month free trials, which I may give a try. They are a bit pricey after that, charging $15/year for iOS only and $40/year for iOS/Mac/PC.

Still waiting for feedback from iCollectMovies.

I just used the same XML export file to attempt an import into iCollectMovies and MyMovies.

The MyMovies import website didn't work at all in Safari and resulted in a cryptic error message in FireFox.  I reported it and am waiting for feedback from MyMovies.

I haven't yet heard back from iCollectMovies. I'll keep you posted.

17.5.1 seems to be behaving the same as 17.4. Of course, iOS 18 is another story. Keep your fingers crossed.

Just checked to be sure. DVD Profiler is still available in the App Store.

Just got this from My Movies:

It should now be finalized for DVD Profiler to the extend I believe it should - you can upload as zip also.

We would love some feedback from as many users as possible.

Here's a link on how to download a free unactivated copy of Windows 10 from MS for use with Bootcamp:

Yes. No license. MS let's you download a limited version of Windows 10 for free. While not fully functional, it is just fine for running DVD Profiler on an Intel Mac. Therefore I would need to buy 11.

I didn't even try since you can download Windows 10 from MS for free but you have to pay for Windows 11. Since I only run DVD Profiler using Bootcamp on my Mac, it didn't seem cost effective.

I just got this comment from My Movies relating to Mediadogg's comments:

We specifically have physical media profiles, which as DVD Profiler means disc release specific data - we have generic movie profiles as well, as what IMDB have, but our coverage on physical media is actually significantly better than what DVD Profiler has.

The point is, when you import from DVD Profiler, we create an exact match of the title you have in DVD Profiler based on the barcode, to the same title in our service - there can be a few titles that are registered with incorrect barcodes in your DVD Profiler database, and even in rare cases one or more titles we do not have in our service.

Titles that cannot be matches are few, and currently not imported - we are looking to extend the importer to create personal profiles for titles that cannot be matched, but we naturally cannot import covers and detailed data based on the XML only from DVD Profiler.

But it is very wrong to assume that you will only be collecting generic movie profiles.

You will often see that the data quality we have is actually an improvement over what you are coming from in DVD Profiler.

The really sad part about this is that iOS users who don't have access to a PC or an Intel Mac are totally screwed since they have no way to export their database. I was hoping that Invelos would offer this as paid service from their website, but that does not seem to be the case.

While I am impressed that the iOS app is still running reasonably well in iOS 17.5.1, even if Invelos resolves the self inflicted iOS online upload issue, it is highly unlikely that this will continue to be the case in iOS 18 and beyond.

Mediadogg: I'm not considering moving to another app because I don't like DVD Profiler. I do. I really do. I am instead looking for a viable iOS alternative, since Invelos seems to have abandoned iOS with the recent server update. While I can still use my iOS devices since I am running Windows 10 on my Intel Mac, Microsoft is abandoning Windows 10 next year. I am not a Boy Scout, but I believe in being prepared.

I just got this response from iCollect Movies:

Yes, please send your exported collection from them over to us and we can import for you.

Sounds promising.

Just got this from My Movies tech support:

This is still working in progress, as especially UI wise there are several things to improve - also the ability to upload the collection in zip is missing. But do give it a try:

https://themovie.network/Import

I haven't tried it yet.

iCollect Movies is another potential replacement. They claim you can send them a database from "nearly anywhere" and they will import it for you. However they don't specifically mention DVD Profiler. I've e-mailed their support folks for clarification. I'll let you know what they tell me.

And a followup response:
We will up-prioritize the re-writing of the import feature for DVD Profiler - we are naturally very interested in getting as many DVD Profiler users to switch as possible.

We believe that our service offers by far the best option for those looking to switch with our data quality and coverage, and we know that many of the DVD Profiler users are of great value to our community.

I'm encouraged by their prompt responses. Let's hope they do a good job. I'll keep you posted.

I then asked them this question:
Please explain more fully what you are suggesting I do. What would be the result of leaving the import at that point? A partial import stopping at the first problem item? A nearly complete import with only the problem items missing? The former is useless. The latter might be useable if there were not too items affected and they were somehow identified for later manual addition.

And got this response:
It means that when it shows a stopped progressbar, it is actually continuing in the background - so let it run and wait for an email.

I got this response from MyMovies when I mentioned your and other's comments about the import hanging:

"There are indeed some files that the importer hangs on - we are working on writing a new importer.

But please do try the existing - note that you just leave it when the progress bar does not move."

Let's hope they fix it.
